MI Updates Website Security

Microscopes International is pleased to announce that we have completed conversion of our web site so that all pages are served over a secure connection. All pages on the Microscopes Int'l web site are served over HTTPS. All traffic between your web browser and our server is encrypted and protected. Previously, all pages with forms were encrypted. That protection has been expanded to all pages on our web site. This includes all files you obtain from our site including: images, PDF files, style sheets, script files, and so on.

How can I verify this site is secure?

There are several things to look for to know if the site is secure.

  1. Look at the URL of the website. If it begins with https instead of http it means the site is secured using an SSL Certificate.
  2. Look for a lock icon in the address bar of your browser. The lock indicates that the connection between your browser and our server is secure.
  3. We use extended validation certificates to secure our web site. Our company name will appear in most browsers before the URL.

Why did we do this?

Information transferred using HTTPS offers three layers of protection:

  1. Encryption
Encrypting data helps keep it secure from eavesdroppers. While you browse our web site, no one can "listen in" on the conversation or steal your information.
  2. Data Integrity
Data that is exchanged cannot be corrupted or altered without being detected. No one can change the information we exchange back and forth.
  3. Authentication
Encryption helps to prove that you are communicating with Microscopes International (and not someone pretending to be us).

Google and other industry leaders are promoting the switch to a secure internet. Some of these changes are starting to appear in the current generation of web browsers (Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, and so on). As more and more web sites become secure, it will be easier to distinguish web sites that are safe and secure from those that are not.
