Flat field correction does not always produce images with flat backgrounds. In some cases, images processed with the flat field correction filter appear worse than unfiltered images.

An inconsistency was discovered in the way images were processed when applying flat field correction in uScope Navigator v4.3 and earlier. In some, but not all, cases the flat field filter created images with exaggerated background corrections. The problem had to do with calculating color average (mean) versus median values for calibration images.

There are a number of filter tweaks that can be used to improve image flatness. However, correcting the calculations mentioned above provides the best flat field correction possible.

This correction is available in uScope Navigator v4.5 and later which may be downloaded from the Microscopes International web site.
