Article ID: NGN1112 — Created: 28 Nov 2017 — Reviewed: 6 Feb 2018

Symptom

Some Anti-Virus software flags the uScopeNav.exe executable as a virus. The specific diagnostic message may be one of the following:

  • Unauthorized File Encryption
  • Executable (exe) is Compressed (packed)

uScopeNav.exe is located in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microscopes International\uScopeNavigator\ folder.

Cause

The uScope Navigator program is a compressed executable and may trigger this warning from some anti-virus file scanners. This diagnostic can be safely ignored. You may need to add an exception to your virus scanner for uScopeNav.exe.

In addition, the uScope Navigator program uses standard file encryption functions to protect uScope firmware and some configuration details (that include user IDs and passwords).

Resolution

The only current resolution for this problem is to add an exception to your virus scanner for uScopeNav.exe. The uScope Navigator application, DLLs, and all other associated drivers are scanned for malware and viruses at multiple points along our production line. We rely on several enterprise virus scanners to scan the software and identify potential issues with the application software.
